AXIS

Saturday 18 Jan to Saturday 15 Feb
Exhibit Image

Axis is an architectural investigation of the gallery at the Old Fire Station. Exploring the relationship between architectural volume and sculptural space, two new works attempt to physically delineate the gallery; one ‘axis’ divides the floor space in two, while the second, measuring the height of the gallery, acts as an anomalous plinth, an incongruous architectural pillar and a totemic industrial sculpture.

The result is a volume of space graphically defined by sculptures that both reference the architecture of the gallery and are subordinate to it. These sculptures subtly respond to the space around them through their simplicity of form and material.

Jack Eden’s artwork focuses on the dialogue between sculptural material and the simplicity of geometric forms, and how one can effect the other’s aesthetic, physical and conceptual boundaries.
